When writing a resume, the personal information part is always at the top. It does not matter if you are a fresh graduate, a seasoned professional or someone trying to get back into the employment game, you must have your personal details included in your resume.
One of the most common issues when it comes to writing this part is the details to be included. Some people say that it should depend on the person’s professional status – or lack of it. If this is your first time contemplating writing a resume, you will be amazed both at how complicated and important this simple part actually is.
In resume writing practices, it is essential to write your full name - your first name and then your last name. Your name will be the first detail that a hiring manager or potential employer will look at. If they see anything that they think should not be there, they would probably not read beyond that line and just go to the next resume. What they want to see is something casual, yet professional and memorable.
Your middle name can be left out, as it will only make your first line unnecessarily long. It does not matter if you write your signature with your initial on it, that one letter is not something that would make your resume look more impressive. The result could actually be the total opposite. It is a common misconception that including a middle name makes the personal information part more formal. Unless you are someone professionally known with your middle name or middle initial (e.g. Jamie Lee Curtis or Michael J. Fox) you’d better stick to your first and last names.
